Applicants 2022: Slight decline but UCPH remains most popular

Applicants 2022

As the rest of the sector, the University of Copenhagen is seeing a decline in applicants in relation to the years with corona, 2020 and 2021. However, some degree programmes have experienced an increase.

5 July was the deadline for applications to bachelor programmes through quota 1. At the application deadline, UCPH had received 28,997 applications. This is 10 percent fewer applications than in 2021 but significantly more than in the years before corona, which really stood out.

"We are very pleased that so many future students have chosen the University of Copenhagen, even though we see a small decline in the number of applications compared with the years with corona in 2020 and 2021," says Rie Snekkerup, Director of Education & Students.

UCPH is the higher education institution that overall has received most first-priority applications. However, all Danish universities have experienced a decline this year just like UCPH. Roskilde University has experienced the biggest decrease of 21 percent followed by Aalborg University of 16 percent. Aarhus University has experienced the smallest decrease of 2 percent.

Four humanities programmes see an increase in applications

All faculties at UCPH have experienced a decline in the number of applications. By percentage, the Faculty of Theology and the Faculty of Humanities have experienced the biggest drop of respectively 29.8 and 14.8 percent. The Faculty of Social Sciences has the lowest drop of 3.6 percent.

Despite the overall decline, four degree programmes at the Faculty of Humanities have seen an increase in applications: European Ethnology, Greenlandic and Arctic Studies, Italian Language and Culture and Classical Archaeology.

Application responses available from 28 July

On 28 July, the applicants will be notified of whether or not they have been admitted. Application responses will be available on the applicant portal Mit KU from midnight on 28 July. Admitted students can immediately accept or decline the offer of admission with a deadline to respond by 2 August 2022.

From 28 July, it is possible to apply for admission to degree programmes with vacancies and/or apply for standby places. Vacancies are listed on the websites of both the Ministry and the University. The deadline for applying for a vacancy or a standby place is 3 August 2022 at 12 noon.
