Update on cyber attack and shutdown

Cyber attack

Update Tuesday 27 October at 21.30: A number of systems remain closed to external access as a security measure implemented yesterday, Monday.

University buildings.

KU IT has been working today to review security and prepare for the systems to be reopened. Over the coming days, KU IT will carry out a controlled reopening of the systems following an individual security assessment. However, this week it will largely be necessary to be physically present at UCPH's premises or to log in via VPN (available to staff only) in order to use the systems, as incoming network traffic is blocked. It is to be expected that the clean-up following the cyberattack will cause operational disruptions in the coming days.

It is a top priority for UCPH to safeguard itself as effectively as possible against cyberattacks and to protect critical research during this process; consequently, the reopening is being handled with caution.

The University is aware that UCPH's students and staff need to regain access to WorkZone, the Absalon course system and other IT systems as soon as possible. These systems are a high priority in terms of reopening. Staff will have access to most systems via VPN during the course of Wednesday. The vast majority of students will be able to access the systems via Eduroam. There are three specific exceptions to this: Eduroam cannot be used in the NBB building, the new SNM and Metropol. In these locations, a wired connection or VPN must be used.

It should be emphasised that the closed systems have not been compromised, but have simply been shut down as a precautionary measure.

With regard to the personal data breach, letters have been sent via Digital Post to those affected. The data breach also includes a number of individuals for whom the University of Copenhagen (KU) has only a name. It has not yet been possible to contact these individuals directly. UCPH has therefore also made it possible to access the letter here.

The letter to those affected describes exactly what data is involved, as well as the precautions one can take. If you have any questions regarding this, please write to GDPRbreach@ku.dk.
