Explore Wonderful Research at Culture Night at SUND

Culture Night

Listen to musical cardiac rhythms, become a surgeon for a day, solve a death, meet confused sperm cells, experience animal dissections and feel the rush of the most beautiful view of Copenhagen from the 15th floor of the Maersk Tower.

On Friday 12 October at 6pm the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences opens its doors for this year’s Culture Night, where researchers and students will guide you through a world of fascinating health research with interesting lectures, minilabs and concerts in three Copenhagen locations.

Venomous snakes, Science Slam and Obstacle Courses in the Maersk Tower:
Experience Copenhagen’s research tower and explore the many minilabs, where you can learn about anything from edible QR codes to the history of drugs and venomous snakes. Try the obstacle course and calculate your physical age or delve into the history of pharmacists and make your own pills. You can also try your hands at simulated surgery or try to solve a mysterious death with the medical examiners.

At Science Slam you can listen to three researchers explain slow and complex research in just three minutes, and you can get close to the human body, when Professor Jørgen Olsen lectures and quizzes with arms and legs. Throughout the evening there will be guided walks of the Maersk Tower ending on the 15th floor, where you can enjoy the spectacular views of Copenhagen and Øresund.

The local choir from Nørrebro Stefantastic will perfom and there will be two concerts with the band Detekt exploring the wonderful rhythms of the heart. Here art will be combined with research in an interplay of futuristic compositions created by Detekt, beautiful visuals by the artists Laura Tathschau and Ruben Lisboa and presentations by Professor Nicole Schmitt on one of the body’s most vital organs.

Time and location: 6pm-10pm, Blegdamsvej 3B, 2200 København N.

An Evening at Medical Museion Devoted to Fertility:
Meet confused sperm cells, life-threatening births and foetuses at an evening devoted to reproduction and fertility. Listen to researchers and museum staff focus attention on mysteries connected with conception, inheritance and birth, and how the latest epigenetics research challenges the idea of nature and nurture. The evening is rounded off with a concert by Bastionskoret in the auditorium.

Time and location: 6pm-midnight, Bredgade 62, 1260 København K.

Zoological Collection and Dissection of Animals at Frederiksberg:
At Culture Night the old veterinary school opens its doors for an evening of interesting lectures, dissections and guided tours. Experience the Zoological Collection and the old stables for the first time. Join us for animal dissections in the Anatomy Theatre, and learn about anything from animal parasites to veterinary history and the development and bones of domestic animals at a series of interesting lectures.

Time and location: 6pm-10pm, Grønnegårdsvej 7, 1870 Frederiksberg C.

Practical Information: Lectures, talks and guided walks are in Danish. The Culture Night event in the Maersk Tower, at Frederiksberg and the Medical Museum requires a Culture Pass.
