Lykke Friis new Minister of Climate and Energy

On Tuesday 24 November, Prorector Lykke Friis was appointed Minister of Climate and Energy by Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen. Lykke Friis has been the driving force behind the University of Copenhagen's work in climate related matters such as the large-scale scientific congress on climate change in March 2009, the many popular Climate Lectures in the Ceremonial Hall, and the building of the CO2 neutral Green Lighthouse at North Campus.

- "The University of Copenhagen warmly congratulates Lykke with her new position as minister", says Rector Ralf Hemmingsen.

Lykke Friis has in her almost 4 years as Prorector made a great contribution to opening up the university to the public, including to the business life. She has also been responsible for the development of the University's study programmes and she has made a great effort in improving the study environment. She was also one of the people behind the new alumni association KUBULUS, which now has over 5000 members.

- "With her excellent analytical abilities and her almost superhuman work effort, Lykke has been a crucial support to me and to the University Director in many other work areas than those she herself was responsible for. And on the side, she handled being a member of the Reflection Group on the Future of Europe. On behalf of the University, I thank Lykke for her outstanding efforts since March 1 2006, and we wish her all the best in the future".
