Settlement of professor dismissal

Settlement

The matter concerning the dismissal of Professor of Geology Hans Thybo has ended with an out-of-court settlement. He will receive six months' salary, but will not be reinstated.

In autumn 2016, Professor Hans Thybo filed a complaint of his dismissal from his position as professor at the Department of Geosciences and Natural Resource Management. In an arbitration tribunal, The Danish Agency for the Modernisation of Public Administration represented the University of Copenhagen while Professor Thybo was represented by the Danish Association of Masters and PhDs.

On Friday 24 November 2017, the matter was decided when the parties reached a settlement. The parties have agreed that the matter has been concluded, and that the University is to pay Hans Thybo compensation corresponding to six months' salary. This concludes the matter, which also means that Professor Thybo will not be reinstated at the University of Copenhagen.

"We have of course taken note of the settlement. I'm pleased that the matter has been successfully concluded by settlement. But I would like to emphasise that there is never a happy ending to matters of this kind. And I can only regret that the University’s previous attempts to settle the matter were not fruitful," says Dean of the Faculty of Science, Professor John Renner Hansen.
