New chairman at the University of Copenhagen

CHANGE OF GUARD

Executive Vice President of Novo Nordisk, Mads Krogsgaard Thomsen, will be the new chairman of the Board at the University of Copenhagen. He replaces Nils Strandberg Pedersen.

After eight years as chairman of the Board, Nils Strandberg Pedersen has decided to resign as chairman. This takes effect on 1 April this year due to personal reasons and happens after the Board has completed the process of hiring a new rector – Henrik C. Wegener.

"It is a perfectly natural time for a new chairman. The work to employ a new rector is finished and the Board is currently discussing the strategy for the university toward the year 2023. This is an obvious time for a new person to take the helm," says Nils Strandberg Pedersen.

Nils Strandberg Pedersen has been chairman of the Board since 2009 and will continue as an ordinary member until 15 September this year.
He was also a member of the transitional Board, which was established in 2007 when the University of Copenhagen merged with the Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University and the Danish University of Pharmaceutical Sciences. At the time,he was chairman of the Board for the University of Pharmaceutical Sciences.

Krogsgaard Thomsen is the new chairman

At a meeting this week, a unanimous Board decided to elect Mads Krogsgaard Thomsen as the new chairman. He has been a member of the Board since 2012. The University of Copenhagen will thus have a chairman with extensive management experience and knowledge about the university.

"The University of Copenhagen has been through a positive development in recent years. High academic standards, basic research, research-based study programmes and diversity are the university's strengths. I'm looking forward to be part of the continued development during a time where knowledge is a critical component for development in all parts of society," says Mads Krogsgaard Thomsen.

Krogsgaard Thomsen is Senior Vice President at Novo Nordisk with responsibility for research and development. He is an affiliate professor in pharmacology and has a PhD and a doctoral degree from the Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University, which today is part of the University of Copenhagen.

Mads Krogsgaard Thomsen was originally a veterinarian. He has previously worked as a researcher at Leo Pharma and has since 1991 worked with the development of medicinal products in different management positions at Novo Nordisk A/S. He was a member of the Board for the Technical University of Denmark between 2000-2008.
